Why Waterproofing Matters

Uganda's Climate Demands Real Protection

Uganda gets two rainy seasons a year, and buildings take a real beating from the moisture. Without proper waterproofing, water infiltration leads to damp walls, mould, lifted tiles, and — over time — damage to the structure itself.

Water damage is sneaky — it often happens slowly, behind tiles or beneath screeds, long before it becomes visible. By the time you notice the damp patch, the damage has usually been building for months. Waterproofing at the time of installation is almost always cheaper than fixing the problem later.

At FloorCraft Uganda, waterproofing isn't an afterthought — it's part of how we approach bathrooms, rooftops, terraces, and basements on every project, whether it's a single family home or a large commercial building.

Our Systems

Five Waterproofing Systems We Install

Bathroom waterproofing membrane application in Uganda

Liquid Membrane Systems

Brush or roller-applied membranes that cure into a seamless, fully bonded waterproof layer. Versatile and usually the most cost-effective option — ideal for bathrooms, shower areas, and around floor drains.

Best For: Bathrooms, wet rooms, shower bases
Sheet membrane rooftop waterproofing in Uganda

Sheet Membrane Systems

Pre-formed membranes bonded to the surface, giving consistent thickness and strong puncture resistance. The standard choice for large flat rooftops and basement floors.

Best For: Rooftops, basement floors, large external areas
Epoxy floor coating in a Uganda commercial building

Epoxy Floor Coatings

Two-component epoxy coatings that bond to concrete for an impervious, chemical-resistant surface. Available in gloss, satin, and anti-slip finishes — ideal for commercial kitchens, car parks, and warehouses.

Best For: Commercial kitchens, car parks, warehouses
Crystalline waterproofing treatment on concrete in Uganda

Crystalline Waterproofing

A penetrating treatment that reacts with moisture inside concrete to permanently block the tiny pathways water travels through. Unlike surface membranes, it cannot peel or delaminate.

Best For: Concrete structures, basements, water tanks
Polyurethane coating on an outdoor terrace in Uganda

Polyurethane Coatings

Flexible coatings that move with the structure instead of cracking — important for outdoor terraces exposed to heat and rain. Available clear, pigmented, or anti-slip with good UV resistance.

Best For: Exposed terraces, podium slabs, balconies
Waterproofing Cost in Uganda

What Affects the Price?

Waterproofing pricing depends heavily on the system used and where it's being applied. Here's what typically drives the cost.

System Type

A simple liquid membrane in a bathroom is far more affordable than a full sheet-membrane rooftop system.

Area Size

Larger rooftops and basements cost more in total but generally bring the cost per square metre down.

Surface Condition

A surface that is already leaking or damaged may need repair work before waterproofing can be applied.

Access & Location

Hard-to-reach rooftops or multi-storey terraces may need extra time and equipment.

Budget-Friendly

Single Bathroom or Wet Room

A liquid membrane applied to one bathroom or small wet area — the most accessible entry point into proper waterproofing.

Mid-Range

Terraces & Small Rooftops

Polyurethane or membrane systems for outdoor terraces, balconies, and smaller flat roof areas.

Larger Projects

Full Rooftops & Basements

Sheet membrane or crystalline systems for large commercial rooftops, basements, and industrial floors.

We always recommend the most cost-effective system that genuinely solves the problem — not the most expensive one. Get a free assessment for an exact, written quote.

Why Invest in Waterproofing

Protection That Pays for Itself

Quality waterproofing is one of the most practical investments any Ugandan property owner can make — prevention costs a fraction of repair.

Protects Against Uganda's Rains

With two rainy seasons a year, buildings face constant moisture pressure. Proper waterproofing is the first line of defence against damp and water damage.

Prevents Expensive Repairs

Water damage discovered after months of infiltration can cost far more to fix than proper waterproofing would have cost at installation. Prevention is the smarter spend.

Preserves Property Value

Damp and visible water damage hurt property valuations. A well-waterproofed building holds its value and rents better.

Prevents Mould & Health Risks

Uncontrolled moisture creates ideal conditions for mould growth, which can cause real respiratory health issues — especially for children.

Protects Structural Integrity

Water infiltration corrodes rebar and weakens concrete over time. Waterproofing protects the structure that holds your building together.

Protects Electrical Systems

Moisture near electrical wiring is a genuine fire and shock hazard — especially during Uganda's heavy rains. Waterproofing keeps things dry and safe.

Controls Indoor Humidity

Effective waterproofing helps control indoor humidity, protecting furniture, timber, and electronics from moisture damage.

Extends Building Lifespan

Buildings with proper waterproofing last significantly longer before needing major structural repairs.

Peace of Mind

Knowing your property is properly protected means you are not dreading what the next rainy season might reveal.

Stop Water Damage
Before It Destroys Your Floor

Uganda’s heavy rains, high humidity, and poor drainage cause thousands of homes and buildings to suffer from leaking bathrooms, damp balconies, rising moisture, and expensive floor failures every year.

At FlooCraft Uganda, we provide professional, long-lasting waterproofing solutions using high-quality membranes and proven systems designed specifically for Ugandan conditions — so you don’t keep fixing the same problem again and again.

Bathroom & Wet Area Waterproofing
The #1 source of water damage in Ugandan homes. We apply high-performance liquid-applied membranes, torch-on bitumen membranes, or advanced cementitious tanking systems. We ensure correct falls to drains, perfect sealing around pipes, and full waterproofing before tiling — preventing leaks that damage ceilings and walls below.
Balcony, Terrace & Rooftop Waterproofing
Exposed surfaces take the worst of the rain. We repair cracks in the slab, apply flexible waterproof membranes with excellent UV and weather resistance, install proper drainage, and finish with durable toppings or tiles. This protects the rooms underneath from water penetration.
Concrete Slab Damp Proofing & Rising Moisture
Rising damp and water seepage through concrete is very common in Kampala and surrounding areas. We install proper Damp Proof Membranes (DPM), penetrating sealers, or full tanking systems. We then apply breathable or heavy-duty coatings that stop moisture while protecting the floor finish.
Water Damage Restoration + Waterproofing
Already suffering from water damage? We first dry out the area, remove mould and damaged material, repair the substrate, install proper waterproofing, and restore the floor beautifully. We fix the root cause — not just hide the problem.

Know the Warning Signs

Is Your Property At Risk?

If you notice any of the following, get in touch for a free assessment — catching it early is always cheaper than fixing it later.

Damp Patches & Staining
Dark damp patches on walls or floors after rain indicate water infiltration — even if they dry out afterwards, moisture is getting in and causing ongoing damage.
Musty Smell & Mould
A persistent musty odour or visible mould growth indicates excess moisture. Uganda's humidity creates ideal conditions for mould within weeks of a leak starting.
White Powder on Walls
Efflorescence — white crystalline deposits on concrete or brick — is a clear sign of water moving through the structure.
Cracked or Hollow Tiles
Cracking, hollow-sounding, or crumbling grout (especially in bathrooms) often means there's water beneath the tile bed.
Rust Staining
Rust-coloured streaks on concrete suggest embedded rebar is corroding due to water infiltration — a sign worth acting on quickly.
Bubbling or Peeling Paint
Paint that bubbles, blisters, or peels — particularly on ground-floor walls — is almost always caused by moisture pressure from behind the surface.

Your Questions

Waterproofing FAQs

Answers to the most common waterproofing questions from Ugandan property owners.

Cost depends on the system used (liquid membrane, sheet membrane, epoxy, crystalline, or polyurethane), the size of the area, and the condition of the existing surface. We provide a free on-site assessment and written quote so you know the exact cost before work starts.

The right system depends on the substrate, the type of water pressure involved, the location (bathroom, rooftop, basement), the area size, and your budget. We evaluate all of this during a free site visit and recommend the most appropriate, cost-effective option.

In some cases, yes — if the tiles are solid, level, and well-adhered. If tiles are hollow, cracked, or the existing waterproofing has already failed, we recommend removing them first to properly waterproof the substrate underneath.

This depends on the system and quality of application. A properly applied liquid membrane in a bathroom typically lasts 10 to 15 years before resealing is advisable. Sheet membrane systems on rooftops often carry 10 to 20 year manufacturer guarantees. Crystalline waterproofing becomes part of the concrete and is essentially permanent.

A leaking rooftop should be treated urgently. Water infiltrating through the structure causes progressive damage to ceilings, walls, and electrical systems. Contact us for an assessment — we will identify the source and recommend the right fix, whether that is a repair or a full membrane replacement.

Yes. Options range from a simple, cost-effective liquid membrane for one bathroom to full sheet-membrane systems for large rooftops. We recommend the most cost-effective system that genuinely solves the problem, and we work with clients at every budget level.

Yes. All waterproofing installations are backed by a workmanship guarantee, with specific terms detailed in your project contract before any work begins.

Yes. Swimming pools need specialist waterproofing that withstands constant water pressure and chlorine exposure. We use epoxy-based or crystalline systems suited to pool applications, and a pool assessment is included in our free consultation.
